In 2012, ICCA registered, in its database, a record number of meetings in the international association sector. The data of more than 11,150 regularly held association meetings that rotate among at least three countries were registered -- a thousand more than in the previous year.
In the annual rankings of international conference countries and conference cities, little has changed. Among the top ten countries, only Japan has made a shift by rising from the thirteenth to the tenth place, by which the country has shown that it has recovered after the cancellations due to the earthquake and tsunami in 2011.
In the top ten cities, Berlin ended among the top three, after Vienna and Paris. The biggest climber is Copenhagen, which ended up in eighth place with 137 meetings, 39 more than in 2011.
In the list of countries, the Netherlands remains in ninth position, and in the list of cities Amsterdam has now risen to a shared ninth/tenth position together with Istanbul.
As part of ICCA's fiftieth anniversary, a special edition of its statistical reporting will be published under the title 'A modern history of international association meetings.' This will appear in September 2013.
