Rob van de Wiel will be taking over the directorship of MECC Maastricht

Following the temporary directorship of Eric Broekaart, Rob van de Wiel (39) will take over as Director of the Maastricht Exhibition & Congress Centre (MECC) from 1 February 2013. Eric Broekaart will continue his career as manager and co-owner of a large catering exploitation in a football stadium in the north of the Netherlands. Rob van de Wiel has been working in higher management in the events industry for more than 12 years. He has much experience in managing large-scale trade fairs, public fairs and events, niche-productions, concerts and B-to-B-productions. For example, he was the manager of De Brabanthallen / Autotron Rosmalen and Event Services Manager for Libéma. For the last few years Rob has served as General Director of Hapéco, a leading events facilitator. Rob van de Wiel will further develop the course set out by Eric Broekaart. The focus of MECC Maastricht is to attract (inter)national medical and non-medical conferences and events. Rob will also strengthen the collaboration with the city of Maastricht and the Euregion as a target area. A good example of this is the Maastricht Health Campus, which facilitates close collaboration between Maastricht Univerity, Maastricht University Medical Centre+, the Province of Limburg, the Municipality of Maastricht and Industriebank LIOF. According to Hans Bakker, General Director of Amsterdam RAI, the change in directorship will be smooth and pleasant: “Eric has done a great job as temporary director and has created a good starting point for Rob. I have full confidence in the successful future of MECC Maastricht". The handover will take place in December and January, during which time much attention will be paid to meeting the stakeholders of the MECC.
